Day two of the YONEX Dutch Open has brought five wins for European players so far with the schedule set to continue this evening.

Alexander Roovers from Germany started off the run, earlier this afternoon after getting the better of Luis Enrique Peñalver in straight games before Lucas Corvee beat Joonas Korhonen also in straight games.
Other wins came from Toma Junior Popov who comfortably beat Manuel Vasquez 21-11 in the first game before taking the match with a 21-17 win in the second.

Positive Penty!

England’s Toby Penty was also amongst the wins of today after beating his opponent from Malaysia, Jia Wei Tan in reasonably comfortable style, and now faces Toma Junior Popov in the next round.

The 26-year old revealed to Badminton Europe that he was happy to win what was potentially a difficult match for him.

- On paper, the match was a potential banana skin for me so I am happy that I have managed to beat my opponent today.

- I felt that I played at the right level needed to win the match and more importantly, I didn’t let him settle into a rhythm.

-It was good to win the match in two games because I did not want to use too much energy and instead save it for tomorrow’s match!

Svendsen wants a challenge!

Also winning today was Victor Svendsen from Denmark, who beat Kalle Koljonen over two games to set up a match with Dinuka Karunaratna or Parupalli Kashyap tomorrow.

Svendsen was really pleased with his on-court performance today and his ability to control his opponent as much as his own strengths.

- Nice to get the win against Kalle today, he can be tricky to play against with his speed and good shots. So, I am satisfied with my performance today.

- I am now looking forward to my match tomorrow, I hope it is against Kashyap from India because it would be a good challenge, to see where my level is at the moment.
