Spain’s Carolina Marin has now won a 3rd World Championship, adding to her wins in 2014 and 2015. This makes her the most decorated Women’s Singles player in World Championship history.

The 7th seed in Nanjing has done what no other women has done and surpassed previous greats from China such as Han Aiping, Li Lingwei, Ye Zhangying and Xie Xingfang, who all have 2 championships to their name.

P.V. Sindhu of India, who was last year’s beaten finalist, and in fact had beaten Marin a little over a month ago, had absolutely no response for the Spaniards speed, energy and aggressive play. The first game for a long period was in Sindhu’s hands, but Marin’s late surge was enough to clinch it. Then the Olympic champion left the arena stunned when somehow upping the pace even more in the second game. Leaving the result in no doubt whatsoever, and secured a 21-19, 21-10 victory to the top of the podium once again.

A great result for Europe, and a great result for Badminton fans, as we may be privileged to be witnessing the work of the greatest ever player?
