One of the most successful German players of all time passes away

Dr. Wolfgang Bochow passed away on 14 September at the age of 73 after a serious illness. 

Bochow won a total of fifteen German championship titles from 1963 to 1976. At the European Championships, he won two silver medals and seven bronze medals between the years of 1968 and 1976.  

He made many memorable results in international badminton which is all a part of the facts to why Bochow was one of the most successful German badminton players of all time.

The excellent athlete that was Wolfgang Bochow was also active in other sports, and he also won German champion titles in hockey, and as an age-class player in tennis.

Bochow also worked behind the scenes for the sport of badminton; as an assessor in a committee of the German Badminton Association (1970 and 1971), chairman in the Lehrausschuss (1977), an assesser in the service committee (1990), vice president in Badminton-Landesverband Nordrhein-Westfalen (1987-1990).

An honourable memory
Bochow received numerous awards in his lifetime. In 1972, he received the "Silberne Lorbeerblatt", the highest sporting award in the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Badminton World Federation also honored him with the "Meritorious Service Award" in 1989, and the German Badminton Association with the achievement needle, in 1971.

- The badminton community in Germany will keep Wolfgang Bochow an honourable memory, writes the German Badminton Association on their website on September 14.
