Title holder Hans-Kristian Vittinghus coasted into the quarter-final of the Australian Open Superseries today with a routine 21-9, 21-13 (35 minutes) win over NG Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong.


Hans-Kristian Vittinghus - currently the world number 30 - wrote on his Facebook profile: „What a great result today beating world no. 8 Ng Ka Long! Almost a flawless performance.“

The Dane will play the number four seed She Yuqi of China for a place in the semi-finals. The Chinese shuttler and Vittinghus have never played each other in international competition.

Adcocks showed „great resolve and resilience“

Earlier, Chris and Gabby Adcock of England continued their stunning run by dispatching Korea’s Choi Solgyu and Chae Yoo Jung 21-14, 17-21, 21-18 to reach the last eight stage of the 750.000 Dollars event. The match was a real thriller that went right down to the final few points of the contest.

“Very close match,” said Chris Adcock speaking to the Badminton World Federation BWF. “We had patches where we felt good and comfortable, but the thing about them is that they never give you anything. If we lose our concentration slightly, they can come back at you; we showed great resolve and resilience in the game to keep fighting back.”

„In this hall we know our defence is good and we were able to get the girl to the back and defend on the counter-attack really well. I’ve been working hard on the flick serve,” said Chris Adcock.

Things started on a positive note for the English pair, never relinquishing their lead in the opener having gone 4-1 ahead, closing out the game 21-14 against the Korean pair.

But Choi and Chae battled back, taking a second game in which the lead changed hands at least a dozen times before securing the last five points to level things up at one game apiece.

The two have gone to three games in their only previous meeting, so it was little surprise that this was to go the distance between the fifth and 13th seeds. The lead was to once again switch on numerous occasions, going right to the wire at 18-18 before the Adcocks closed out the contest 21-14, 17-21, 21-18 – setting up a last-eight clash with China’s Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping.

European Champion Ouseph stunned by Tian Houwei

Rajiv Ouseph as he missed out in the last-16. China’s Tian is seeded eighth for this competition, and he opened up on the front foot despite Ouseph looking to have gained the advantage in the first game. Four consecutive points gave it to Tian however, only for a second-game fightback to see the European Champion roar back to parity. Once again Ouseph had opened up a lead at 9-3, and while it was to be levelled at 19-19, the Englishman took the vital two points to take it to a third and final game.

But that one was not to go his way as Tian found top form, winning seven consecutive points to win the third game 21-8, ending Ouseph’s CROWN GROUP Australian Open campaign – the last major event before the World Championships.

European Champions Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen advanced to the quarter-finals as the world no two pair from Copenhagen outlasted Chae Yoo Jung/Kim So Yeong of Korea 21-15, 21-11.

Pedersen and Juhl will next face unseeded Hye Rin Kim/Yoo Hae Won of Korea, who beat Japanese pair of Naoko Fukuman/ Kurumi Yonao [8] 21-6, 21-10. „It will be a repeat of our first round match at last week’s BCA Indonesia Open.“
