Dear badminton friends,

I am very humble and honored to be Your president these days.

Over the last couple of months, European badminton has gone through exciting times. Not only have we seen fantastic results on court with a new European World Champion, All England Champion and Malaysia Open Champion in Carolina Marin in addition to great results by many Great Danes, such as Cristinna Pedersen, Jan Ø. Jørgensen, Mathias Boe, Carsten Mogensen, Viktor Axelsen and Joachim Fischer, we also celebrated the inclusion of Para-Badminton in the Paralympics and in our own organization, Badminton Europe.

Add to this the tremendous success that Shuttle Time is having in Europe and the outstanding organization of our recent events, the 2015 European Mixed Team Championships in Belgium and the 2015 European Junior Championships in Poland, this makes for a lot of good reasons to be proud of what has been achieved for our sport in Europe over the recent months.

Next week, our Annual Delegates' Meeting is going to vote on a new organizational structure for our organization, which should ensure more inclusion of Member Associations and badminton experts in various fields within the decision making on our organization’s future. I sincerely hope that we will get full support of our Members and I personally look very much forward to the discussions and achievements I am sure we will realize once the new structure is implemented.

Should the Membership approve of the proposed new structure, our focus over the next months will be on maximizing Member Association inclusion in the decision making of our Federation, ensuring the right resources are leveraged on the strategic directions for Badminton Europe and establishing true female representation at the highest administrative levels within our sport.

I am very thankful to my fellow Council Members, our office and all of our Members for supporting the work of our Federation in the way all of you did.

Badminton Europe is also looking forward to the long-awaited launch of our Badminton Manager App. Based on the latest versions we have been able to test, we are confident this app will contribute to the experience you all enjoy following badminton competitions worldwide.

Finally, we are all excited to see how the first European Games get shape and we are happy that badminton will shine as one of the key Olympic Sports part of the European Games program. Although no BWF World Ranking points are available this year, during the Olympic Qualification Period, we still seem to have a decent representation of European top badminton players at the Games. Should the European Games turn out to be a success, we will work hard to make sure the results achieved in these Games will in the future contribute to the qualification for the Olympic Games.

In the meantime, I look forward to seeing you all soon in Paris to contribute to our Annual Delegates' Meeting and to join us in celebrating the many successes achieved by European Badminton at the upcoming Badminton Europe 3rd Awards Gala.

Yours in Badminton,

Gregory Verpoorten
Badminton Europe President
